Meet Sulley "Bear" Speakeasy

Here's the drummer of the fictionalized band for the comic. I like the left one. The right one was the first trial of ideas. The left was the afterthought . Yay! Now, I can continue on with the page layouts and what not...

My studio

This what my "studio" look like before i started to my make changes. I just recently got the Light Box/Drawing board. When i got the drafting chair from my good friend, JJ. I realized the chair is too high for me to work on the light box sitting the desk you see now and i can't lower the chair at all. I even checked on the other desk where my pc sit, still too high. Luckily, i can get the table desk(the pc desk) go higher. I went on a mission to move stuffs around and sort out my wires underneath the desk.

Here's the changes, The table on the left higher for my drafting chair and lightbox switched with the pc. It makes it easier, i think.

Introducing the light box/drawing board. I love this tool. It's starting speed up my process a little. Once i get hang of it. I'll be drawing like a robot, hopefully. hehe.

There ya go! my little studio...

Break from the blog...

I'll be back with more postings, but for now a hiatus till I'm way ahead with my schedule of my comic venture pages. I've only done two pages so far. I blame the work for taking my time in a stressful space. :( But don't worry. I'm back on the drawing board and ready to blast those pages out. Will post some as sneak peeks...

LIVE WELL AND PROSPER...

Testing, testing... One, two, three...

this may look like I did alot of recolouring on each colour I've done before. But no, it was quick, I've found a trick in Photoshop and it's very simple. I'm not gonna reveal it, maybe in the future. I'm gonna use to different colours here and there depending the situation or mood.

Here's a colour scheme test I'm busy trying out for my comic... But i feel i need to play out more schemes for moods and combination that will work...

The top is more soft kind of feel while the top is bit dark but warmly feel. I have to try other colours soon.

I did post this before, but that was a test to see how to add images from my deviant art account. In which i didn't like the way the box view it.

I always suck at drawing super heroes. It is because A) Superheroes don't appeal to me much (Even though there are really some good ones out there), B) I don't see myself drawing them. I'm more of a Indies Type comic books like Oni Press, Vertigo, Image, Dark Horse and among others. This was a little test to see if my style would work for superheroes type faces like superman and among others. There are other faces that just popped in my head, so I had to draw them... :) The supes are (From the Top Left): Ghost-rider, Spider-man, Blue Devil (should have not draw the teeth), Wildcat (a faves), Superman, Batman and Martian Manhunter (Don't think I did him justice, sorry).

This was character I've created a while ago... I had the comic strip mapped out just for fun but I lost the enthuasim to do it. I don't know why. I might try to add a page for the comic venture. Well, let's see.

Brain stain logo

Here's my logo tryout for the comic venture I'm doing... Was trying to stay away from Literal thinking and try to make the logo stand out. I hope.

*UPDATE*

Another attempt...

My influences...

I've decided to talk about my influences that made me to pursue comic art world or the illustration world for that matter...

I've been reading comics since my father introduced them to me... It ruled my world. From there i wanted to be spider-man, Flash, Bat-man, Super-man and He-man. Ha ha, theses were the best time. I even asked my mom to get or make the clothes. I remember the times I draw over the white shirts, imagining that I'm that superhero for while. Till my mom would shout at me for drawing over the shirts, and angrily throw them in the washing machine. Sorry, mom.

Comics also made me love carton like the Disney's and TV shows i sit watch, taking it all in. I started tracing the superheroes, I think that where i started to get into drawing comics.

Fantasy, sci-fi and adventure film and shows were the best things for me to watch when i was growing up during the primary school and high school years. Battle Chasers Blew my world in to the anime and fantasy world. Joe Madureira was a huge influence during that time. Its sad to hear he stopped drawing comic and went to game industry.

from there i got more interested in other genres like slice of life and mature stuffs from comics and film like Clerks, The Lookout and among other good films.

now, i still read comics, but i tend to read off beat or left field comics as the same way as i listen to music. As speaking music, it kind of influences my drawing stle towards real environment instead of super heroes. I don't know why, maybe i "grew" up. i still like to super hero only if its worth to read it.

Enough about films and growing up. My influences of artist/illustrators/writers/directors are:

Kristian Donaldson: i really like his style and the colors he uses in his comics especially, Supermarket and DMZ. It's kind of the direction i wanted to go for in terms of colors.

Fabio Moon and Gabrielle Ba: The twin that i started to get interested lately. I recommend to check Casanova and Umbrella Academy. They may be twins, but they can draw damn well in their style.

Derek Hess: This guy influence my fine art style during the high school years. I kind of change it, but he still my fave artist to watch.

Brian Wood: My fave comic writer to watch. Please do read, DMZ, Supermarket and Nothlanders. His style of realism and writing influence the way i think in comic books.

Kevin Smith: Clerks made laugh alot. Kevin is a genius when it comes to dialogue and situation he put in environment for his characters. He did also wrote some comics after he done Mallrats.

There's so many more to add, but these are the influences I think predominately help me to be a comic artist i am today. And, lastly, my mom who raised me and supported me to be a good person and never give up the hardship, even though I'm a bit lazy.

UPDATE: I'm gonna change this post later...

Headshots...

When I started, I try to to think up ideas for the story and plot it out roughly. It kind of play out in my head for awhile till I've decided I'm ready to work on it. I just take my little sketchbook and let it flow out ideas, drawing and some doodles. I like to draw heads to get some cool ideas. I have no idea how I came up with Elk dude, But I remember the Fallout Boy's music video, can't remember the song, but it involved a kid with a antlers meeting a girl. Maybe, that came into my drawing sub-conscientiously. Don't know, but I want to draw weird things added to the characters, but not too weird. Just fun weird.

I'll post up more head drawings tomorrow. But this is just for now some ramblings.

The avatar appears!

Here's an avatar I for myself did for Sin Bin's little (or big) comic project... Can't reveal yet, or just not sure if I can reveal it. Mmmmm... :? But it'll be fun!

Update:
I hate it when you send an idea, artwork or a design piece, you just just suddenly get a way better idea for that work. Arg! But hey, it part of the process. Now, I really like the new avatar. Much more oomph! The look and feel is inspired by two of my comic favourite artist, Nathan Fox (http://www.foxnathan.com/ Amazing website) and Kristian Donaldson (http://www.prodigalnine.com/)

B-Side's logo

I've been playing around with ideas for the logo of my B-Side comic book. But I've had different names for the comic book. They all just sort of lame for the comic book till I remembered a cassette had two sides to put in a record player. So I tried that name and it works. So glad that I don't have to go all the way trying to find names for the comic book. I would be struggling and go crazy. :D

As you can see I've tried other possibilities, till I came to the bomb logo with the "B" on it. I took it and add the the line "Untypical Rock 'n Roll Story" along the circle of the robot. Still have to clean it a bit up and leave it as it is:

Well, I'll update it soon... :D

Less time screwing around, more time working....

I've decided to keep my blog's look and feel simple as possible. Don't want to waste time trying to make the whole blog fancy and work less time on my drawing and other important stuffs. So, the header will be my "look and feel" from now on.

Here's the Zen dude... I've haven't decided on his name yet. But he's another one of the faves to draw. He's not part of the band as I've shown before. He is part of the rival band of sort and a invaluable character of the story...

More drawings coming soon.

Welcome to my first blog...

It took awhile to get hang of my blog. You will notice changes over the time due to that I will be screwing around the layout. Till I finally happy with the look and feel.

This is where I'm going to post drawing and infos on my comic book called "B-Side: Untypical Roll 'n Roll Story". I've already started on the characters and stuffs, but they will be posted up as soon as possible.

Just bear with me as I get around posting stuffs here and there.

Here's first drawing i did awhile ago. Just to get hang of the characters:

They are: Jesse, Mitch and Damian. The names might change, I'm still working on the character names. My fave character to draw is obviously Damian. The elk dude, he's going to be the main character. I will not reveal the story yet, still some plot-holes to sort out.

So there you go, my first post. Yay!!

UPDATE: Well, I've decided not to screw around with layout. Just wanna keep it simple as possible to let my work stand. out.
